Description
This transcription was created on the basis of a book published in 1912 by Gerlach and Wiedling.
The operetta was composed by Wenzel Müller based on a play by Adolf Bäuerle.
The two characters Zilli (Aline's confidante) and Bims (the barber) are comparing notes on how Vienna has changed.
The book does not give all the verses from the play, but I have added the missing verses in, because they are quite fun.
Although various arrangements have been made in the 20th and 21st centuries (including piano solos and voice and strings settings which have been recorded) I have not seen a transcription of the original song itself online. So here it is.
Unusually for this book, the German is closer to Hochdeutsch than real Viennese dialect, possibly because the author Adolf Bäuerle hoped for a wider audience. It is transcribed from Gothic to Roman script but unchanged in any other way.
The pdf includes a scan of the original published version for interest.
The sound file is an electronic preview.
